Having a Social Media Marketing Plan

Social media is changing the way we communicate with each other on a daily basis.  We can now connect with friends, family and even companies in ways that had never been possible before.  As a result, the proliferation has lead to the rise of social marketing media. It didn’t take long for companies to understand that they could advertise their products and get information to customers both new and old.

However, social media marketing will only work with a good plan.  You simply cannot just jump onto the latest social media site and begin advertising without having a good idea of how to maximize your dollar and views.

In fact, creating a social media marketing plan requires that you follow a few simple steps.  First, you must determine how much time and money you have to devote to social media marketing.  Many times this will depend on the size of your business, the size of your budget and your overall goals.  If you are the sole owner of a shop who is just looking to expand your horizons, you may need to spend less than fifteen minutes a day promoting yourself on social media sites. However, a larger company may employ people whose only job is to promote the company online.

Next, you will want to check out social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter in order to see what your customers are already talking about.  This will give you a good starting point to focus on and can also give you some insight into your competition at the same time.

The next step is to determine which mediums and sites you want to advertise on.  If you are a small company, you may want to start with just one site and as you get more comfortable, add others to your media marketing plan.  You will also have to determine how you want to monitor these sites.  This can be done manually or by getting an email when you have a message or even a text.  You may also want to set up a Google Alert so you will know when your company gets a mention on the web.

Your next move will be to figure out how often you will post on each social media account.  In order to not ignore one, it may be a good idea to keep a schedule of special promotions or other events to ensure that you are posting in good order.  You may also want to experiment and see when your posts get the most responses and adjust your posting time and frequency.

One you figure out how you want to proceed with your online marketing plan all that is left is to put it in place.

A successful online marketing is all that stands between your business and bringing in a lot more money.  In addition, it doesn’t take a lot of work or time and you can find yourself in a much stronger position for your business by using the internet to your advantage.
